from wikipedia The term foo fighter was used by Allied aircraft pilots in World War II to describe various UFOs or mysterious aerial phenomena seen in the skies over both the European and Pacific Theater of Operations. Though "foo fighter" initially described a type of UFO reported and named by the U.S. 415th Night Fighter Squadron, the term was also commonly used to mean any UFO sighting from that period.[1] Formally reported from November 1944 onwards, witnesses often assumed that the foo fighters were secret weapons employed by the enemy, but they remained unidentified post-war and were reported by both Allied and Axis forces. Michael D. Swords[2] writes, "During WWII, the foo fighter experiences of [Allied] pilots were taken very seriously. Accounts of these cases were presented to heavyweight scientists, such as David Griggs, Luis Alvarez and H.P. Robertson. The phenomenon was never explained. Most of the information about the issue has never been released by military intelligence." The first sightings occurred in November 1944, when pilots flying over Germany by night reported seeing fast-moving round glowing objects following their aircraft. The objects were variously described as fiery, and glowing red, white, or orange. Some pilots described them as resembling Christmas tree lights and reported that they seemed to toy with the aircraft, making wild turns before simply vanishing. Pilots and aircrew reported that the objects flew formation with their aircraft and behaved as if under intelligent control, but never displayed hostile behavior. However, they could not be outmaneuvered or shot down. The phenomenon was so widespread that the lights earned a name - in the European Theater of Operations they were often called "kraut fireballs" but for the most part called "foo-fighters". The military took the sightings seriously, suspecting that the mysterious sightings might be secret German weapons, but further investigation revealed that German and Japanese pilots had reported similar sightings On one occasion, the gunner of a B-29 aircraft managed to hit one with gunfire, causing it to break up into several large pieces which fell on buildings below and set them on fire. The postwar Robertson Panel cited foo fighter reports, noting that their behavior did not appear to be threatening, and mentioned possible explanations, for instance that they were electrostatic phenomena similar to St. Elmo's fire, electromagnetic phenomena, or simply reflections of light from ice crystals. The Panel's report suggested that "If the term "flying saucers" had been popular in 1943-1945, these objects would have been so labeled." Author Renato Vesco revived the wartime theory that the foo fighters were a new Nazi secret weapon in his non-fiction work 'Intercept UFO', reprinted in a revised English edition as 'Man-Made UFOs: 50 Years Of Suppression' in 1994. Vesco alleges that the foo fighters were in fact a form of ground-launched automatically guided jet-propelled flak mine called the Feuerball (Fireball). The device, operated by special SS units, apparently resembled a tortoise shell in shape, and flew by means of gas jets that spun like a Catherine wheel around the fuselage. Miniature klystron tubes inside the device, in combination with the gas jets, created the foo fighters' characteristic glowing spheroid appearance. A crude form of collision avoidance radar ensured the craft would not crash into another airborne object, and an onboard sensor mechanism would even instruct the machine to depart swiftly if it was fired upon. The purpose of the Feuerball, according to Vesco, was two-fold. The appearance of this weird device inside a bomber stream would (and indeed did) have a distracting and disruptive effect on the bomber pilots; and Vesco alleges that the devices were also intended to have an offensive capability. Electrostatic discharges from the klystron tubes would, he states, interfere with the ignition systems of the bombers' engines, causing the planes to crash. Although there is no hard evidence to support the reality of the Feuerball drone, this theory has been taken up by other aviation/ufology authors, and has even been cited as the most likely explanation for the phenomena in at least one recent television documentary on Nazi secret weapons
A type of electrical discharge from airplanes' wings (see St. Elmo's Fire) has been suggested as an explanation, since it has been known to appear at the wingtips of aircraft.[10] It has been pointed out that some of the descriptions of foo fighters closely resemble those of ball lightning.[17] During April 1945, the US Navy began to experiment on visual illusions as experienced by night time aviators. This work began the US Navy's Bureau of Medicine (BUMED) project X-148-AV-4-3. This project pioneered the study of aviators' vertigo and was initiated because a wide variety of anomalous events were being reported by night time aviators. Dr. Edgar Vinacke, who was the premier flight psychologist on this project, summarized the need for a cohesive and systemic outline of the epidemiology of Aviator's Vertigo as, "Pilots do not have sufficient information about phenomena of disorientation, and, as a corollary, are given considerable disorganized, incomplete, and inaccurate information. They are largely dependent upon their own experience, which must supplement and interpret the traditions about 'vertigo' which are passed on to them. When a concept thus grows out of anecdotes cemented together with practical necessity, it is bound to acquire elements of mystery. So far as 'vertigo' is concerned, no one really knows more than a small part of the facts, but a great deal of the peril. Since aviators are not skilled observers of human behavior, they usually have only the vaguest understanding of their own feelings. Like other naive persons, therefore, they have simply adopted a term to cover a multitude of otherwise inexplicable events.

so far the theories don't stand up, the author Vesco on what is posted above is talking gibberish, if true a lot of money and research went into a project to put the pilots off, and the fuerbal would have landed somewhere, so there would be evidence, there is none, the most secret project at the time was the Manhattan project and we know everything about that, the fuerbal wasn't in the same league as the Manhattan project, so why would it still be kept secret.

LEONARD H STRINGFIELD
Stringfield's interest in the subject began August 28, 1945, just three days before the end of the war, when he was an Army Air Force intelligence officer en route to Tokyo, Japan, along with twelve other specialists in the Fifth Air Force. As they approached Iwo Jima at about ten thousand feet in a sunlit sky, Stringfield related: "I was shocked to see three teardrop-shaped objects from my starboard-side window. They were brilliantly white, like burning magnesium, and closing in on a parallel course to our C-46. Suddenly our left engine feathered, and I was later to learn that the magnetic navigation-instrument needles went wild. As the C-46 lost altitude, with oil spurting from the troubled engine, the pilot sounded an alert; crew and passengers were told to prepare for a ditch! I do not recall my thoughts or actions during the next, horrifying moments, but my last glimpse of the three bogies placed them about 20 degrees above the level of our transport. Flying in the same, tight formation, they faded into a cloud bank. Instantly our craft's engine revved up, and we picked up altitude and flew a steady course to land safely at Iwo Jima." Stringfield said his World War II encounter was so traumatic that he tried to forget about it. But he was drawn back into the UFO field in 1950 when two very sincere people related flying saucer sightings to him. Stringfield then wrote: "This one experience near Iwo Jima was proof enough to me in 1950 that the 'foo fighter' of World War II--sometimes dubbed 'Kraut fireball' in the European Theater--and the flying saucer were one and the same kind of machine and from the same source: outer space." Uneasy about the "rumored loss of Air Force interceptors chasing UFOs, the low-level green fireballs over Sweden and the southwestern United States" and his own experience, Stringfield related he was concerned about the "intent" behind the probes. In March 1954, he created Civilian Research, Interplanetary Flying Objects (CRIFO), and published a monthly newsletter, ORBIT

The Gravity of the Situation: UFOs, Mercury and Antigravitic Forces Could ancient civilizations have harnessed the power of the atom? What about advanced aircraft capable of out-maneuvering our best jet-propelled planes? What if this civilization existed thousands of years ago? It doesn’t really sound possible, does it? But the truth is that, while we can’t be certain that any such civilization did ever exist, there are a startling number of references in documents dating back to ancient times, as well as the occasional appearance of artifacts that seem chronologically “out of place,” pointing to far more advanced engineering concepts that may have existed in our prehistory than most are willing to consider. For instance, when one begins to look at some of the passages contained within the ancient Vedic epics of India, there are a number of rather odd things that tend to appear, especially for those of us interested in UFOs and anti-gravity. Reports of flying craft called vimanas are not just mentioned casually; in fact, epics like the Sanskrit Mahabharata seem to impart even more concrete details which, remarkably, may pertain to the methods of propulsion these strange craft could have used. There are a number of references that have been made over the years regarding the use of mercury in powering machinery, and perhaps more importantly, knowledge of this passed down within the Vedas. Ancient sites in many parts of the world, ranging from South America to China and other locations, have been found to have contained devices–and even what might be likened to elaborate conduits, piping systems, and other bizarre arrangements–which were believed to have been designed to contain the substance. This could have been for any number of reasons; mercury is unique, since by virtue of being metallic it is a conductor, and yet it also maintains a liquid form at reasonably temperatures. Alchemists in the middle ages, while unaware of properties such as electrical conductivity, still considered mercury a sort of “primary element” capable of being transmutated into gold and other metals. But the fluid state of mercury may be of far greater importance today, as its ability to conduct electricity while in a liquid form like this may present unique possibilities when it comes to mechanical engineering and the creation of electromotive devices capable of producing current. We bring all this to the table here because ancient references to a “mercury vortex” housed within an iron box, as indicated in translations of Sanskrit texts such as the Mahabharata, would be the ideal means of propulsion for the proposed vimanas of ancient India. Researchers in modern times like Professor Peter Thomson, looking at such passages as clues, have even gone so far as to attempt to design what has variously been called a “Charged Sheath Vortex” or some other kind of “mercuric engine” that could produce the sorts of effects desired… but exactly what effects would we hope to create with engines using a mercuric component like this, and would they be capable of propelling craft through the air in unconventional ways? It is understood that during World War II, the Nazis had hoped to create some sort of aircraft that might have utilized mercury or vortex technology in order to achieve antigravitic effects; in other words, they may have hoped to design unconventional aircraft that were propelled through the air using technology working harmoniously with the Earth’s natural gravitation field. Interestingly, one alleged device, known as Die Glocke or “The Bell” was said to have been related to such studies, and was filled with a purplish “mercury like” substance referred to as Element 115. Some researchers, including Joseph P. Farrell and Henry Stevens, have attempted to guess the possible function and uses for such a device, with the latter of these two supposing the mercury substance could have been what is called “Red Mercury.” This substance, however, believed to exist throughout the 1970s and ’80s with potential uses in nuclear weapons development and stealth technology, is now understood to have been a likely hoax. Indeed, alleged “red mercury” sales taking place on the black market may have actually had to do with a substance that may or may not have even existed, and the use of “red” in the title, rather than indicating anything about the color, may have merely been a reference to Russian origins for this non-existent substance. Nonetheless, it is interesting that allegations about the existence of a Nazi antigravitational project which incorporated mercury (whatever the actual variety in question may have been) have come to light; especially since it is known that Hitler and the Nazis, with their various occult fascinations, had also been very intrigued by the ancient Sanskrit epics. These, as we already know, described UFO-like “vimanas” that had obvious appeal for use in wartime. But if such craft ever existed, in a chronological sense, this would have had to be thousands of years ago. Thus, is it more likely that what we’re dealing with in the Vedas would actually represent a mythology which, interpreted through the language barriers, cultural perspectives and technological windows of modern society, would only appear to be indicating some ancient advanced civilization? If this were the case, could it be that the alleged Nazi experiments being described here were merely the result of happenstance? Perhaps so… although it is interesting nonetheless that in addition to the Nazis, scientists ranging from J. Robert Oppenheimer (of the Manhattan Project), to those involved in more modern Chinese government programs, all find that the ancient Vedas of India seem to hold the key to some kind of knowledge… perhaps even something capable of reshaping the future as we know it. What if many of the UFOs we see today are in fact the product of revisiting ancient technologies that once existed here on Earth? If this is the case, why might such technologies have ever been lost? Does this mean we should continue to capitalize on such technologies, or could a future await us that promises some ultimate self-destruction? We can only hope that if such supposed knowledge ever did exist, and that if it hindered the ancients with such apocalyptic results, perhaps our own advancement as a civilization will be undertaken in ways more conducive to our survival as a species. No matter how you choose to look at the situation, this is good advice for the innovators among us today seeking to capitalize on such things as weapons development… and whether or not theories pertaining to ancient societies are mere fairy tales. Our quest for knowledge, if not obtained and wielded with care, could result in things of far greater detriment to our existence than we may realize; according to some, at least, such cataclysm may already have taken place here on Earth, albeit in our ancient past. Ancient Aliens - Aliens And The Third Reich Here's the Ancient Aliens Documentary on the Third Reich: If ancient aliens visited Earth in the remote past, could they have given us advanced technology, past down through human history? And could this technology have helped the Third Reich build mysterious weapons and crafts far beyond the limits of 20th century science? During World War II, there were reports that the Germans built an operational flying saucer, known as the Hanebu, which was said to use mythical technology found in ancient Indian texts. Another craft was rumoured to have been constructed with the help of psychics and mediums who claimed to have received detailed blueprints from extraterrestrial beings. Is it possible Hitler's quest for world domination was aided and abetted by ancient extraterrestrial technology that was rediscovered? And could the allegedly rebuilt alien devices developed in Germany have played a role in America's ability to land a man on the moon? |

The Nazi Bell project utilizing mercury in a vortex can be easily proven if and when someone unblocked the underground passages where the experiments took place and took some soil samples to a soil analysis lab. Ive used the Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer to measure levels of mercury in the micrograms in fish and contaminated soil. If large amounts of mercury are found in the soil sample taken around the test site, it could prove that the experiments were taking place and lead someone to find the machinery. That would be awesome. I feel sorry for Victor Schauberger. He had a handle on the concept of naturally charged water as a means for producing electricity and maybe anti gravity, but the Third Riech wanted him to use Mercury. Sad really, if the tale is true. www.unmuseum.org/germufo.htm

we still haven't sorted out the Foo Fighter issue. as Khan from star trek would say, "this subject vexes me". we have only skirted the Foo Fighters, I feel sure we could find out a lot more about them, nearly 70 years later we don't know, and the image of Concorde with a Foo Fighter beside it Vexes me.

Hello allan53,
It would appear that there is a missing piece of the puzzle then wouldn you say? And that's the issue with UFO's in general. The descriptions are there, the reliable witnesses, the data within the report, all is present. And yet is it? Obviously not. Throughout the subject there seems to be enough given to the public to make it appear to be an obvious solution however, it really cannot be solved as ALL the information is never there. Only clues.
"Like burning magnesium". Interestin description of a foo fighter which I have read many times WRT other shapes. What gives with that? Teardrop shape- all three. Another intereseting detail. Plasma obviously it would indicate. Ok, let's say the propulsion is a result of having a power plant that is filled with pure proton material. Electrons would of course would be attracted and depending on the amount of energy fluctuation those electrons go through then the type of light can be determined. I makes sense that such an electrical field would "strip" the electrons from any motoe or engine that has an electrical system.
So, what kind of theoretical physics could be involved and would it be feasable. These are questions I am unable to answer but I would assume someone could answer them were someone to know someone. I, alas, do not.
Edited: added last sentence to 2nd paragraph
