Close Encounter in New Zealand
Unidentified Flying Object Followed New Zealand Family
A small percentage of UFO sighting reports indicate that the witness has a "feeling" or intuition to go outside, and look into the sky, or that they are able to communicate with the UFO or its occupants. Another seldomly reported occurrence is being visited by some strange person or persons following a UFO encounter. Some believe this is nothing but hogwash, or the ravings of the mentally ill.
But, to those who are involved in these types of sightings, nothing could be more real, especially when the sighting and visit is witnessed by more than one person. I want to relate to you an account that clearly relates this phenomenon. The report originated with the Tinaru Herald of New Zealand.
The Encounter on Waitohi Road
The event occurred in 1981 on Waitohi Road in Temuka and the principal eyewitness was one Ken Thew. Although thirty years have elapsed since the sighting, there is no doubt to Thew that he was involved in something quite extraordinary. This case was part of the file release by the New Zealand government, authorized by the Defence Force.
Thew, a retired mechanic, has examined many of the UFO files himself, but has found that his encounter is still quite unique. He stated that:
"What they have seen is different compared to what we saw, but that's apparently the way it is."
Thew's sighting was witnessed by his wife and three young daughters, as they saw an extremely large, bright UFO as they were driving home from Pleasant Point to Temuka on July 12, 1981.
Thew says that "It was a bit frightening for a start. We were just traveling home from a night at my cobber's place, when my oldest girl said, 'What's that over there?' and I said, I had no idea."
After reporting what they saw to local authorities, they told their story to the Temuka Herald. They related how a multi-colored unknown flying object paced their vehicle for a time. It would come to within 100 meters of their vehicle at its closest point.
At the time the Thew family told their story for publication, they did not tell the whole story, however, keeping some intimate details to themselves and a small group of close friends and relatives.
The Strange Visitor
What they kept secret was a frightening and unnerving visit by a man who called himself Mr. Wright. This man visited the Thew family at their home, and Mr. Thew's place of business. Wright claimed to be an investigator from Christchurch. He was dressed in an old suit, and related a warning to Thew and his family.
He told Thew that if he or any of his family members saw the unknown object again, not to try to contact the occupants, or to approach the UFO.
The self-named Mr. Wright had some other odd characteristics besides his antiquated dress. The Thews watched him drink down a boiling hot cup of tea, and he read pages of a manuscript from bottom to top. He also knew the name of their dog, though no one had told him.
Before the Thew encounter, Mr. Thew was not a staunch believer in UFOs, but did keep an open mind about things he did not know. He stated without reservation that the object his family saw was unlike anything any of them had seen before or since.
The Thew family was also visited by a television crew shortly after their encounter, and crew members asked his children to draw pictures of what the object looked like. When the segment aired on TV, most of the responses were positive, except for a few who called in and said the family was insane.
This type of negative response does not bother Thew, who states: "I had my faculties, I know what I saw."
