This is the official statement from Darren Perks in response to the BBC3 Conpsiracy Road Trip UFO show he starred in: “I decided to get involved in this show mainly for personal reasons. I saw it as an opportunity to get over to the USA and extend my own UFO investigation and research. By this I mean the fact that I was able to meet some different experts in their own fields and go to locations that relate to the UFO phenomena. For that I am grateful and I have managed to network with other people and ufologists due to the trip. The show was not set up and I do honestly feel it was not propaganda. Alot of people say the BBC are all about propaganda and I do agree on this to a certain extend on certain subjects. But this show was not at all designed in that way. I was there, I saw it produced and I took part. If at any point on the trip I felt like I was contributing to a propaganda piece I would not have carried on and I know some of the others with me also felt that way. The presenter Andrew Maxwell basically speaks his mind and quite rightly. The aim of the show was to logically explore the UFO phenomena, getting the views from five people with an interest in the subject, whilst also getting the views of various other people in other subjects relating to UFOs. None of the five people on the show were told what to say or do and they freely expressed themselves. Although time constraints and situations affected the production companies ability to get certain experts involved in the show, I feel that the experts that did feature did a good job, and I would personally like to thank them for their time and input. Andrew Maxwell is a good person and I can understand his way of thinking whilst doing these shows. He had some very valid points and I am glad that he presented this show. I have nothing bad to say about him and I fully support him should he do other shows like this. Rather than the same old type of presenter this was something new and different and the majority of people will see this. Only the usual blinkered moaners will complain. One of the main points I put across to the production company before I got involved, was that the show had to be serious but also have a fun side. There is nothing worse than having the same old show about UFOs that is dull, boring and follows the same script as every other UFO show before it. So I am pleased that we have seen the seriousness of the subject and also the fun side. It’s good to get a mix, and I am glad that the show came across in this way. If you want more people to become interested in ufology you also have to make it fun. I do not regret what happened at Area 51. Yes, it was stupid and irresponsible but at the end of the day we were all under the guidance of the director, producer and production team. We all and I mean all made a group decision to go onto the restricted area. Yes, I could have refused but I didn’t and that is that. There is nothing I can do about it and life goes on. We went there to film and nothing else. We didn’t try to sneak in as some have put it and we didn’t go there to antagonise the guards. We went too far and got fined. Personally I took alot of useful information from the incident. It has obviously generated interest in the show and the BBC must be rubbing their hands together because of it which is to be expected. What I want people to remember is, that we filmed for 10 days solid. There are alot of things we filmed that have not been included in the show which is a shame, but then that’s how TV works. You simply can’t put everything in and to be fair there were some things that quite frankly would show some of the people up, so I’m glad in some respect of this. It would be great for everyone to have seen more, and you never know a third series might be on the cards with a UFO subject again… I thought this show was good and various points came across well. I do not agree with everything that was aired but there is nothing I can do about that. This show was never going to be really in depth on the subject and people need to remember that. I will continue to investigate and research the UFO phenomena so that people can get as much knowledge on this subject as possible and the show does not affect my ability to carry on doing that. There has been positive and good comments made about the show and some negative ones. I personally take no notice of the negative comments made by people who wish to try and ridicule anything that was said on the show by myself, Brigitte, Franky, Scott, Ben and Andrew. I also know that the others feel the same way. Unfortunately there are those that will try to rock the boat because they disapprove of the show, and what I say to them is ‘dont bother it will have no affect what so ever’. Positive comments are always welcomed and thank you to the people who have given these. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the production company Renegade Pictures and the BBC for letting me get involved in this show. I got on really well with all people involved in the trip, and I am glad I met a great bunch of people in Ben, Scott, Brigitte and Franky who I now regard as friends. Thanks to the production team and film crew it was a pleasure to work with you and Scott Country www.scottcountry.co.uk for letting me take and use their amazing digital night vision kit the Pulsar 550. Andrew Maxwell was good presenter and guided the direction of the show well. His humour was outstanding and at times I have never laughed so much. Hope you enjoyed the show.” www.ufoshropshire.co.uk/?p=807 |
