I have recently written to my cousin out there in Essex. We had not seen each other for many years, I wondered if this 'gift' that I have, runs/ran in his family from our ancestors? This is what he had to say, as I am sure he would not object by posting the main them of his email
It starts with my email:-
Our Family
I have to agree to all these parallels, likeness and genetic values that seem to have been passed on. You have highlighted what I have always thought and I have found it particularly interesting with family virtues and history as to identify oneself with these things.
I am particularly interested in another trait. Religion which I have noticed that you yourself had been involved with the church earlier in your life.
My mum, although not deeply committed to the church has religious beliefs which are very strong and date back to our early family heritage.
I myself (although indirectly connected) have been interested in parapsychology and hope to take a Masters before a Phd at Luton University.
Theology and this science can be very similar and somehow, I was just wondering if your mother had what I can only describe as some kind of intuitive gift which my mum has inherited down from her family.
Many times she had been able to see things before they happened as this is more than co-incidence.
This may have adapted itself with your mother, who has also passed to you?
I hope I am not dwelling too much into personal matters, but it is a point worth mentioning, when you feel better after that nasty bug that you all have caught.
Other than that, I am preparing old photographs and videos which is taking a long time to find. Especially mum’s old dresser where she keeps them.
His email:-
"Obviously mum was a Greek-Orthodox and she was a practising one as well. She took her religion very seriously attending regularly at the church on D**** Road, Nottingham. I may have mentioned before that after dad died I would collect her from C****** and she would stay with us every Christmas and New Year when I would then take her back home. Well, not far away from us there is actually a Greek-Orthodox monastery – The P*********l Stav******c monastery of St John The Baptist, which is located at a place (village) called *****shunt-K****hts. When she was here one year we said that we would take her there for a trip out if she wanted to go. She was ecstatic and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our stay there as she curtsied and crossed herself in front of every icon that she could find. I must say that the nuns and monks were extremely welcoming and showed great hospitality. When she returned home she would tell everyone who would listen about her experience there and, when the church announced that a coach excursion was going to take place to this very monastery she took great pride in saying that she had already visited there and launched into telling them everything about it. Yes, I think you could say she was a very religious woman who did berate me for my general lack of faith.
Concerning the realms of parapsychology I just retain an open mind. There are, as the saying goes; many strange and wonderful things between heaven and earth. Things about which we have no current understanding at all or no scientific principles which we can reasonably apply. I keep an open mind but remain extremely sceptical about so-called ‘evidence’ based on orbs appearing in photography both still and video; nor recorded sounds which unless you can see the subtitle at the bottom of the screen you would have no idea that the sound is allegedly a spirit voice saying what it is claimed to be saying. Essentially you have some of these parapsychological ‘experts’ using or designing bits of kit which are alleged to be capable of detecting changes in the environment and/or recording spirit behaviour of some kind (audio or video). The only problem being is that the results (whatever they are) cannot ever be properly validated as a manifestation of spirit activity because it is not possible to ever calibrate the equipment against a standard measure of spirit activity, or rather a lack of it and to then be able to say with absolute confidence that any deviation from the norm is caused by spirits interceding with the world of the living.
As I have said George, I do keep an honestly open mind on the subject and would actually be delighted (wouldn’t we all) if I could be shown proof positive that we sometimes see through a half opened door into another realm, call it an afterlife if you will. Your comment about sensitivity to ‘hidden things’ is interesting because I have always said that I felt that mum had something more than just clever intuition in some areas; I used to say that she had ‘the sight’ and it could be really uncanny at times. I have also said to M******* that the female Michaelides line has ‘the sight’ and I believe that she has inherited it from my mum; she does feel (and sometimes sees) things which we do not; she swears that the house is haunted and claims to have seen ghosts in the house.
On odd happenings: The other day we were all sitting at the dinner table having dinner. T**** had opened the jar of cranberry sauce to add some to her plate. She then replaced the top of the jar and placed it in a space around the condiments. A minute or two later, no more, and without any warning the top of the jar flew off at some speed and landed in her dinner. We were all astounded and sat there open mouthed for what seemed like ages. I would not have believed it had I not seen it happen myself. M******* just said – It was the ghost.
It couldn’t have been a pressure build up because the lid had been removed and had only been replaced in position for a minute or two. Also, the lid would have had to have unscrewed itself in addition to launching itself into the dinner plate; all very strange; perhaps M******* is right.
We are starting to get a bit better by the day now and hope it continues. I hope so because we have a birthday party scheduled for Saturday and lunch with friends on Sunday and it would be a shame to cancel either diary date.
The dismal weather i.e. cold, wet, miserable and uninspiring I find very depressing even though I am not really in a state to be outside in it. I think it is about time the Christmas trees came down so I think I’ll go and do that.
Take care the both of you and stay healthy; regards to your mum."
I believe the cranberry sauce incident, is a sign sent to make him think about my email?
