The 21st Century of UFOs
From: outofdarkness601.blogspot.com/2012/02/21st-century-of-ufos.html
How Important is UFO History?
A lot of very good people have devoted a large portion of their lives to the study of the UFO field and we owe a great debt to those who have gone before us. They had the courage and fortitude to study a topic that is considered way outside the norms of accepted science. There has been a wealth of studies, books, articles; you name it, in the last 60 plus years. Maybe some people don’t know what is out there or how you can get some really good UFO resources.
Unfortunately, we know the internet is not a reliable source of good solid information about UFOs and the history of the field. Reports and stories get distorted and anyone can print anything about anything. Fads come and go. We’ve seen things like the Face on Mars, the alien autopsy film, orbs, the UFO mother ship behind the Hale-Bopp comet, rods, drones, and now metal boxes on beaches. If the Beings really decide to do something overtly, I don’t think you need to worry about things like strange metal boxes; but I digress.
I’ll never forget my first MUFON section director’s meeting. Our host was talking to us about Roswell. I thought, “What’s Roswell?” I didn’t know anything about UFOs at the time. I was very impressed with the knowledge our section director had and I thought I would never be able to learn all these terms, cases, and places he was talking about. It was really hard for me to pick up that first book and start reading. I had no interest at all in the subject until the time came when I had to pick up that first UFO book. I remember the angst I felt when I went into the bookstore to buy it and then take it home to actually read it. Should I wear gloves? Euw! I used to be a very anti-UFO person; but that is another story.
Well it’s been many years later and I have learned a lot from books, acquaintances, journals, newsletters, reports, and most of all – my own experiences. History is very important for so many reasons. We build on the knowledge of those who went before us. We dishonor those who did this work if we do not read it and take care of it for the future. Most of the societies around the world will not recognize this subject let alone its history so it is critical that people who care about the UFO subject educate themselves as much as they can.
I urge everyone to check out some of the resources I present in this article. Some of them are free and some are at a small price. All of them are real treasures to add to your library. It is worth the petite price to get these UFO materials. You will not be disappointed if you do.
MUFON (Mutual UFO Network)
Did you know you can download MUFON UFO Journals for free? The entire archive is available on online courtesy of John Greenwald’s Website The Black Vault.
I particularly recommend the MUFON journals from the 1960’s, 1970’s and 1980’s.

APRO (Aerial Phenomena Research Organization)
The APRO Bulletins are now available on line and you can download them here:

CUFOS (Center for UFO Studies)
Then there is the treasure trove of resources at CUFOS founded by J. Allen Hynek which I am sure all of you know who he is and how important he was to UFO history. I won’t list everything here but there is a list of materials offered on the CUFOS Web site which is quite extensive. Please note that the address has changed and it is now:
CUFOS

There are some really cool resources I want to highlight from the CUFOS archives. First is the entire and I mean the whole kit-and-caboodle of International UFO Reporter issues that the Center for UFO Studies published from 1976 to early 2008 all on one DVD. All volumes are included from 1 through 31 and each volume is contained in one PDF file. The text is searchable. Also included, as a bonus, are issues 1 through 24 of the Center Investigator’s Quarterly, which was the chief communication about CUFOS investigations and procedures in the early days of CUFOS. You get all of this for one hundred bucks! This is huge! Here is the link that will take you directly there:

Hard copies of the IUR are available. Also, there are more current issues available, you can ask for those as well.

JUFOS – Journal of UFO Studies

Encounter at Buff Ledge: A UFO Case History by Walter N. Webb...$14.95
This book is about a double abduction case in which the witnesses never discussed their experience before the investigation.
You never know how long these books, journals, CDs, and DVDs will be available. Take advantage of it if you can. These resources can lead you to other material that is just as good. Use them!
I admit that sometimes I can’t read as much UFO history as I would like because I am active with dealing with my own experiences with this phenomenon and then going on with my “normal” life activities. There isn’t enough room to fit everything in but I know we all can relate to not having enough time to do the things we want to do in life.
Personally, it is very interesting to read these materials from an abductee’s perspective. We could learn a lot about this phenomenon if abductees were listened to as well. After all, we have direct contact with these Beings. But then, how well I know how this concept blows up like a cataclysmic tidal wave of atomic bombs from so many areas of the UFO community for various reasons too long to go into one blog.
UFO history is important to all of us who are interested and involved with this greatest of human mysteries. Being knowledgeable and literate about UFO history helps us move UFO studies forward into the 21st century, which is already well underway.
