UFO's An Open Book
George Fawcett, Lincolnton’s expert UFO investigator, is slowly, but surely retiring from his lifelong passion.
“Frankly, I’ve done my job, and as a result, we’ve flown all over the world, we’ve met people we never would have met,” Fawcett said of himself and his wife. “I’ve had a balanced life between the real world and what people thought at one time was a bunch of bologna. Now things have turned around, so everyone’s joined the party with me.”
Fawcett has dropped his membership in 10 UFO organization, but is remaining in two. He’s also donated almost everything UFO related he’s collected over the decades to a museum in Roswell, New Mexico and the Mutual UFO Network in Colorado.
“I used to have 300 filing cabinets,” Fawcett said. “I’m down to the last file.”
Now 80, Fawcett has had both a knee and a hip replacement. A former YMCA director, his health is not what it used to be, but he still loves investigating UFOs.
“It’s an ongoing thing for me,” he said. “I’m trying to slow down.”
Fawcett first became interested in UFOs at the age of 10, and for most of his life, aliens were something people didn’t take seriously.
There are still lots of people who laugh at the idea of little green men, but the number of people who take it seriously has grown. Fawcett and his wife just recently watched a documentary on ancient UFOs on the History Channel.
“It’s an open book now,” Fawcett said.
And it’s a book he hopes will continue to be written.
“I look forward to hearing a lot more,” he said.
