Australia's military has lost its X-Files, detailing sightings of Unidentified Flying Objects, or UFOs, across the country, a newspaper report said on Tuesday. After a two-month search in response to a newspaper Freedom of Information (FOI) request, which forces government officials to release documents of public interest, Australia's Department of Defence had been unable to locate the files, the Sydney Morning Herald said. "The files could not be located and Headquarters Air Command formally advised that this file is deemed lost," the department's FOI assistant director, Natalie Carpenter, told the paper. Defence officials could not be contacted by Reuters. The only file Defence had been able to locate was a folder called: "Report on UFOs/Strange Occurrences and Phenomena in Woomera," a military weapons testing range in the center of Australia's vast outback, Carpenter said. All other files had been lost or destroyed, which the Herald said could fuel conspiracy theories about their disappearance. The single remaining file detailed a sketchy series of sightings from around the country and overseas, including people living in towns near Woomera, in South Australia state. X Files, named after a popular U.S. television science fiction program, refer to supposed government records detailing paranormal mysteries, usually involving fictitious alien species. Australia's military had decided to stop taking UFO sighting reports in late 2000, the Herald said, asking members of the public to report incidents to police instead. Well see that is the conclusion that many will go too. However it will probably be nothing more than some people (lower on the ladder) shredded them, as happens very often within Government archives.

Yes and so a conspiracy begins lol. I think there is a very logical reason such as what youve suggested as to why they cant be found. I dont think they are trying to hide anything, since a hell of alot of countrys have released there files,

Who gives them the authority to do this anyway. This is so unfair & unjust.People should have a right to view the files through freedom of information.Ufo's & Aliens many are intrested on this topic. Why throw it away?I disagree with you Judge:There hiding evidence. No conspiracy Judge: Just a common sense approach lol. Cheers:Prettyboyfloyd Here's the common sense approach m8. Do you really think that any government would release anything of any significance ? We have had files released by many govs, and to be totally honest there is absolutely nothing at all in those files that we didnt already know. And just for the record the files that do get released mean absolutely nothing at all. They do not in any way show govt investigation and conclusions, all they are are files reported. Or to put it another way there is no acknowlegement from any files released by any govt saying that UFO's are Alien / ET origin

Australia's UFO files missing, sighted, found After UFO files were released in the UK and New Zealand, the media company Fairfax made a Freedom of Information request for Australia's documents about investigations of unidentified flying objects, but the country's DOD could only find one. After searching about two months for the UFO files, in response to Fairfax's FOI request, Australia's Department of Defence was able to turn up only one document, the Sydney Morning Herald reported. As another digital journalist reported, New Zealand declassified 2,000 documents containing accounts of UFOs and alien encounters in December 2010. The British Ministry of Defence released a cache of secret UFO documents into the National Archives in March 2011, the NY Times reported. The website The Black Vault that calls itself an online database of government secrets, published an organized list of British UFO and alien-encounter documents from earlier releases by the Ministry of Defence. Also, the U.S. Department of Defense online reading room published a list of UFO-related documents, compiled from various government sources. However, Fairfax's request for the Australian documents only turned up "Report on UFOs/Strange Occurrences and Phenomena in Woomera," which describes an October 1962 UFO sighting by a military officer who tracked an object on radar for 24 minutes before concluding it was a snow cloud, according to Msnbc.com. DOD officials then concluded the rest of Australia's "X-Files" had been destroyed after the government stopped collecting UFO reports in November 2000, the Msnbc.com article continued. Internet searching by this reporter found the proliferation of conspiracy theories about these missing files has started. Australia's archive of UFO files was seen by researcher Bill Chalker in 1982, the Sidney Morning Herald reported. in a follow-up about the mysteriously missing documents. But Bill Chalker, in his blog TheOzFiles, claimed he has "the case of the 'missing' Australian DOD 'X-Files'" solved, non-mysteriously -- simply by knowing how to search the National Archives of Australia on the topic. The DOD destroyed some of the documents in housecleaning sweeps, some were preserved by researchers and many were transferred to the NAA, where searching for "flying saucers" works best, Chalker explained.
