Do we still kill each other in large numbers? Do we feed each other? Do we look after our environment?
Those are the questions Dubbo Observatory owner Peter Neilson believes aliens ask when they travel to earth to observe our way of life.
But the full-scale alien invasion predicted in the Northern Territory is not imminent according to Mr Neilson, who says we don’t qualify to join the league of life forms in the galaxy.
“I think UFOs are galaxy-wide TV crews that come every thousand years to ask the three basic questions,” Mr Neilson said.
Darwin-based UFO-ologist Alan Ferguson said there had been movement in the Territory as the dry season began.
“This is high activity time of the year. There’s a lot more activity this year than in previous years,” he said.
“The future’s going to be interesting.”
A quick street poll found more sceptics than believers.
While Lyn from Wellington and Dubbo’s Rosie McCarthy are “open-minded” about other life forms, Dubbo residents Gary Nelson, Rebecca Williams, Jodie Weldon and Matilda Julian are “sceptical”.
“No, I’m a complete sceptic,” Ms Julian said. “Aliens are things that are in movies, not in real life.”
But Lyn from Wellington said if she saw something herself, she’d believe it.
“I’m a bit open-minded about it but I haven’t seen one,” she said.
Lyn’s idea of an alien would be a tall, skinny, green figure with a large head and big eyes.
“I don’t have much imagination,” she said. “That’s what they look like in movies.”
