New Hampshire couple puzzled by bright light behavior over lake
A retired New Hampshire businessman-pilot and his wife watched a large, single, bright light cross "the entire sky in a blink" on June 21, 2010, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
"But as I watched this light it just disappeared, gone, no trace anywhere, completely clear skies," the witness stated. "It did occur to me to be the Aurora, however, there were no sonic booms and that would not explain an extremely bright light. This was extremely puzzling and scared my wife."
Shortly after, they also watched a red light in the sky that also disappeared.
The following is the unedited and as yet uninvestigated report filed with MUFON. Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If New England MUFON State Director Steve Firmani investigates and reports back on this case, I will release an update.
NH, June 21, 2010 - Large bright light traveled across sky in a flash and disappeared. MUFON Case # 23889.
First of all, I am a retired, successful businessman and avid pilot, I have over 1,000 hours as pilot in command, I keep a seaplane at my home on the lake.
My wife and I were out for a sunset cruise in our boat, there wasn't a cloud in the sky, we were about 1,500 ft West of Little Barndoor Island on Lake Winnipeasaukee traveling NNE, just outside of Wolfeboro Bay.
We have a bowrider, my wife was in the bow, I was driving and under a bimini. She looked up and said "what is that", I stuck my head out from under the bimini to look and directly above us between 20,000 and 50,000 feet(a single bright light is difficult to judge) was an extremely bright light, too large and bright for a star or planet. I was so intrigued that I went back to the controls and stopped the boat to come out to get a better look.
This only took a couple seconds, by the time I got back it was gone.
My wife told me it had moved and pointed in a NNE direction. I spotted it, but now it was a small light with what appeared to be a strobe, at about 50,000 ft, so I immediately thought it was an airplane, but that does not explain how it crossed the entire sky in a blink, with no vapor trail.
But as I watched this light it just disappeared, gone, no trace anywhere, completely clear skies. It did occur to me to be the Aurora, however, there were no sonic booms and that would not explain an extremely bright light. This was extremely puzzling and scared my wife.
Oddly enough, on the ride home, traveling SSE I spotted a red blinking light to the left of the moon, which was about 3/4 full. I thought it was odd because airplanes will have a white strobe, not red. Again, this caught my attention and I was in a position to study it, and once again, it just vanished. Out in the water, the sky was huge and completely clear, and this light was just gone.
