UFO reporters not happy with Fourth of July weekend witness testimony
The Fourth of July weekend is my least favorite time of the year as a UFO reporter.
OPINION
Same weekend in 2009, I covered what appeared to be many dozens of orange spheres or discs shooting across American skyscapes. But in the back of my mind, I'm thinking - it's all fireworks.
As a UFO investigator and as a writer, you always sit back and watch for certain signs.
Despite the traditional American festivities - with hundreds of thousands of more people focused on the sky - and thousands of people shooting off store-bought bangs and lights - there is bound to be some misinterpretation this particular weekend.
On the other hand, my critics will say, why would the UFO phenonema stop because Americans are celebrating in the skies?
The signs we watch for are intelligently controlled crafts - something no Chinese Lantern will do. We look for how an object appears to us from a land-based observation. We watch speed and movement.
Some items we have to throw out the window - like the fact that most UFOs produce no sound. That is also typical of some fireworks like the Chinese Lantern - no sound - as it moves with the wind.
As I review the increased UFO traffic reports these past few days, I have to be skeptical of anything reported as an orange sphere, silently cutting across your air space. It's so much tougher when the witness - emphatic in their description - takes it upon himself to rule out Chinese Lanterns or any other type of fireworks display. But when I read back through the same witnesses' description - I cannot help but see that they are describing all of the patterns of something man made for recreational purposes.
With all of that in mind, the Fourth of July reports that follow are reported on with some higher skepticism than on other times of the year. I usually allow the witness to speak here - without much comment - and allow my readers to step up to the soap box as a Comment on the page - and to try and figure out exactly what happened. I will most likely skip over many of the reports that "feel" like fireworks so that we can move on with a serious look into UFO investigation. Please comment on cases you feel were overlooked, or under reported - as your opinion does count.
And please forgive me for being much more skeptical one week out of the year - the exception being April Fool's Day - and possibly Spring Break Week when bored college students who didn't get to go to the beach resort have too much time on their hands.
